City4Climate – City Digital Twins for Climate Action aims to leverage Digital Twin technology to support urban climate governance and promote more informed, data-driven decision-making.
Aligned with the National Smart Territories Strategy (ENTI), the project seeks to develop and implement a Digital Twin architecture in the cities of Porto, Lisboa and Guimarães, all part of the EU Cities Mission, while also fostering capacity building and replication of the model in Aveiro, Oeiras and Famalicão.
The solution integrates real-time data, predictive analytics and scenario simulation—covering areas such as emissions, air quality, energy and mobility—enabling cities to test strategies virtually before implementation. In this way, City4Climate accelerates urban decarbonisation processes, in line with the Cities Climate Contracts and European carbon-neutrality targets.
Ubiwhere is responsible for the Guimarães pilot city and leads Activity 6.2, which focuses on the instantiation of the Digital Twin in a real municipal context. Within this scope, Ubiwhere ensures the adaptation of the Digital Twin to Guimarães’ specific characteristics, integration with municipal systems and local data sources, as well as testing, calibration and validation. The activity also includes engaging and training municipal staff, ensuring operational alignment and supporting informed decision-making.
This project is funded by the Agência para a Reforma Tecnológica do Estado, the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia and the Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência.
