MareCom consisted on the creation of a solution of high availability, broadband and low cost to optimize maritime communications. Its main goal was to serve all the communities operating in the sea environment, such as fisherman, sea shipping recreational craft and national marinas with reliable and broadband connections while promoting the digital inclusion of this communities.
In order to reach this purpose, MareCom developed new protocols that enabled a wider propagation of radio and applications that supported maritime activities. The solution was highly validated through a pilot held in Portugal with the cooperation of the Portuguese Navy, in October 2018.
