Future Internet and Next Generation Network

ubiwhere Aveiro

FogProtect is designed to ensure the secure mobility of sensitive data, end-to-end (from IoT sensors, through fog nodes up to cloud servers and ultimately to end-user devices). It will essentially comprehend the development and demonstration of advanced technologies in real scenarios, combining the fundamental areas of innovation of this field to address the challenges of data protection in smart cities, industries and media. These solutions will benefit from fog computing technologies, capable of adding a certain capacity of memory, storage and computing to a distributed point of the network to handle data processing, the fog node. This technology allows the data processing (e.g. analysing CCTV footage) to occur in a decentralized way and much closer to its source, turning this, into a faster, safer and more sustainable process, as well as opening doors to smart analysis and resource decisions based on the vulnerability of the data or on the network’s capacity.

Ubiwhere will validate the Smart Cities use case, demonstrating how Smartlamppost and Urban Platform can benefit from the secure acquisition, mobility and processing of sensitive data (in this case, data from CCTV footage) to ensure the citizens’ privacy by anonymizing collect data and disclosing its access to authorized users only (public authorities in case of a car accident for example). More than assisting the emergent need of digitalisation among industries and public sectors, FogProtect will ensure data protection in a secure, resilient ecosystem of Telecommunications of the Future aligned with the citizens’ evolving needs.

This project has received funding from the EU´s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No   871525.
