On the 24th of April, NOVA IMS hosted the Networking Event on Urban Digital Twins, as part of the NexTCity initiative, which included the participation of Ubiwhere. This event marked the conclusion of the programme “NexTCity at NOVA IMS: 5 Days on Urban Digital Twins”, a five-day initiative that brought together a Summer School, a Thematic Workshop and a Networking Event, all focused on the growing relevance of digital twins in the urban context.

Designed to foster dialogue and collaboration, the initiative brought together researchers, public authorities, industry representatives and other stakeholders involved in urban innovation. Throughout the five days, participants explored the role of digital twins as key tools to support decision-making and address complex urban challenges.

Nuno Ribeiro, co-CEO of Ubiwhere, was one of the speakers in the round table ’Data, Digital Twins and Urban Decision Support’, where he contributed to the discussion by sharing perspectives on the role of digital solutions in smart cities. During his intervention, Nuno Ribeiro presented Ubiwhere’s approach to urban innovation, highlighting its Urban Management Platform and the City4Climate project. This initiative aims to reduce the gap between data and climate action by leveraging the potential of digital twins, advanced 3D virtual models that integrate real-time data, predictive analytics and scenario simulation. The project is being implemented in the Portuguese cities of Porto, Lisboa and Guimarães, within the framework of the Mission Cities initiative, in alignment with the National Strategy for Smart Territories and the Cities Climate Contracts. Together with consortium partners, Ubiwhere has been supporting the development of a digital twin model tailored to climate governance, promoting the integration of real-time data and predictive analytics to support decision-making and accelerate decarbonisation. During the round-table, the conversation focused on the adoption of analytical tools, emphasising the importance of training and capacity building, as well as the role of product design in making these tools more accessible.

By bringing together these different profiles, the event reinforced the importance of collaboration in building innovative, data-driven approaches to urban development.
