Research projects with the participation of Ubiwhere highlighted in the SNS Journal 2025

Ubiwhere

SNS Journal 2025, the official publication of the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), presents 79 research and innovation projects in the context of advanced 5G and the future 6G network, with an investment of over €500 million from the European Union. This annual report highlights initiatives that are shaping the future of digital connectivity in Europe and worldwide. Ubiwhere is proud to see several projects in which it is an active participant and consortium member featured in this edition, demonstrating the company's impact on digital transformation and the European telecommunications ecosystem: ETHER, Hexa-X-II, Imagine-B5G, 6G-Cloud and 6G-Twin.

The ETHER project (page 52) aims to provide a holistic approach to integrated terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, developing solutions for a Unified Radio Access Network (RAN) and for energy-efficient resource management and AI in the terrestrial, aerial and space domains. Ubiwhere intends to leverage the knowledge gained through the project to improve the interaction between terrestrial devices and NTNs, enabling a more cohesive integration of data from NTNs with data collected from various terrestrial network domains, thereby enhancing its position as an international benchmark in device interoperability and integration.

The Hexa-X-II project (page 56) led the development of 6G architecture in Europe, creating an innovative platform that supports advanced services, artificial intelligence and spatial/temporal data, promoting sustainability, inclusion and strategic autonomy for the EU. Ubiwhere actively contributed to the development of technological studies and the social acceptance of 6G, involving Portuguese stakeholders and identifying technology adaptation needs.

The IMAGINE-B5G project (page 86) was designed to implement an advanced, accessible, secure and programmable end-to-end (E2E) 5G platform, offering ideal conditions for large-scale testing and piloting. IMAGINE-B5G provides an open and flexible platform, supported by four facilities located in Portugal, Spain, France and Norway. Ubiwhere belongs to the Portuguese Facility and plays an active role in the project: in addition to leading the communication and dissemination work, it contributes with its IoT platform, which is efficient in collecting and processing data to provide real-time reports, critical updates and actionable intelligence, and also monitors the N -TourXP-5G project, selected in Open Call 2, which focuses on the smart digitalisation of tourism, demonstrating the potential of 5G to transform the visitor experience in European destinations.

The 6G-Cloud project (page 102) investigates, develops and validates essential technologies to create a cloud-compatible artificial intelligence (AI) native system architecture based on cloud continuum. Ubiwhere is leading the dissemination and promotion of the project’s results, contributing to the analysis of use cases, designing the system architecture, and creating the resource orchestration and prototyping framework.

In turn, the objective of the 6G-TWIN project (page 106) is to provide the basis for the design, implementation, and validation of an AI-native reference architecture for 6G systems that incorporates Network Digital Twins (NDT) as a central mechanism for end-to-end real-time optimisation, management, and control of highly dynamic and complex network scenarios. As a project partner, Ubiwhere has played an active and central role in the 6G-TWIN project, contributing to the development and validation of the 6G architecture, modelling Network Digital Twins, and implementing evaluation methodologies. In addition, it has promoted the dissemination and exploitation of project results, leading to knowledge transfer initiatives in industry and ensuring that the generated results have a practical impact and technological relevance.

The simultaneous presence of these five projects in the SNS Journal 2025 demonstrates Ubiwhere’s strategic role as a leading technology partner in European research. By joining research teams of excellence, Ubiwhere is at the forefront of defining the future of connectivity, actively contributing to the foundations of the 6G network and strengthening European leadership in telecommunications.
