Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and António Costa at the launch of Ubiwhere’s Digital Nervous System Testbed

The public launch of the Digital Nervous System Testbed of Ubiwhere took place on 31 March, at the University of Aveiro, regarding the constitution of the National Network of Testbeds.

The event was attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister, António Costa, the Minister of Economy and Sea, António Costa Silva, the Minister of the Presidency of Portugal, Mariana Vieira da Silva, the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, of the Mayor of Aveiro, Ribau Esteves, of the Deputy Secretary of State of the Prime Minister, António Mendonça Mendes, of the Secretary of State for Digitization and Administrative Modernization, Mário Campolargo and of the Secretary of State for Economy, Pedro Cilínio.

The initiative took place in the Auditorium of the Rectory of the University of Aveiro, under the scope of the constitution of the National Testbeds Network - a collaborative network formed under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), composed of innovation poles throughout the country and with an allocation of 150 million euros.

The session included the conduct by Ubiwhere of a demonstration in a real context of using the Testbed for road safety purposes, using 5G technology. The demonstration was actively attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the Prime Minister, António Costa.

The event ended with presenting the services available at Ubiwhere’s Digital Nervous System Testbed in a showroom where other testbeds that make up the National Network of Testbeds also participated.

Headquartered in Aveiro and with deep work developed in the mobilization of the surrounding technological ecosystem, the Digital Nervous System Testbed aims to facilitate the digital transition and innovation of startups and SMEs with ideas for products and/or services with a strong digital component, which can achieve at least level 5 of technological maturity.

Through equipment, infrastructures, and technical expertise in technologies such as 5G/ Beyond-5G, computing continuum/ edge-to-cloud computing, the Digital Nervous System Testbed will help Portuguese startups and SMEs with an innovative technological idea, thus reducing the risk of the "valley of death".

The Digital Nervous System Testbed is thus formally inaugurated and ready to support the digital transition of businesses in Portugal. More information can be requested via e-mail (dnstestbed@ubiwhere.com).
