Interoperability at the Core of Digital Ecosystems: Ubiwhere at FIWARE Summit 2026
Ubiwhere took part in the FIWARE Global Summit 2026, held on 9 and 10 September in Menton, France, in the context of the O-CEI project. The event brought together the FIWARE community around open technologies, interoperability and data-driven ecosystems, addressing topics closely connected to the work being developed within O-CEI.
The FIWARE Global Summit is a meeting point for organisations working with open-source technologies and standards for interoperable digital solutions. This year’s programme included discussions and technical sessions on areas such as Data Spaces, Digital Twins, Artificial Intelligence and smart cities and territories, reflecting the growing need to connect data, platforms and infrastructures across different domains.
This context is particularly relevant to O-CEI, a project funded under the EU’s Horizon Europe programme and focused on building a more sustainable and resilient Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystem. The project is developing an open CEI platform with interoperability, security and reliability at its core, enabling different sectors and infrastructures to exchange data and collaborate more effectively.
O-CEI also addresses the role of open standards and cross-domain interoperability in creating a more integrated computing continuum. Its work combines Cloud, Edge and IoT resources with data and service orchestration, while exploring how these technologies can support greater energy efficiency and more sustainable use of digital infrastructure.
For Ubiwhere, which is part of the O-CEI consortium, participation in the FIWARE Global Summit provided an opportunity to follow the evolution of technologies and standards that are shaping increasingly open and interconnected digital ecosystems, while exchanging knowledge with a community working on many of the same interoperability challenges addressed by the project.
Through projects such as O-CEI, Ubiwhere continues to explore how research in interoperability, distributed infrastructures and data sharing can contribute to digital platforms and solutions that are more flexible, efficient and prepared for real-world environments.
