From Research to Impact: Hexa-X-II and IMAGINE-B5G, two projects with Ubiwhere’s contribution, recognised by the SNS JU
Ubiwhere is a member of two projects recently selected for the SNS Key Achievements Repository Tool: IMAGINE-B5G and Hexa-X-II. Launched in 2025, this initiative brings together the most significant results from projects funded by the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under Calls 1 and 2. The tool highlights the Key Achievements of 63 European projects, organised across five thematic categories, and showcases the technological, economic, and social impacts achieved.
The results delivered by IMAGINE-B5G and Hexa-X-II are now part of the SNS JU reference repository and feature among the Top-10 Key Achievements, which are also explored in detail in a dedicated brochure and a technical webinar on the evaluation and selection process.
Within the Hexa-X-II project, the highlighted Key Achievement focuses on 6G Use Case Families, framed within the technological areas of sustainability in digital services and energy-efficient device design. Key innovations include the definition of six sustainable 6G use-case families that demonstrate environmental, social, and economic benefits across multiple sectors. The project also introduced the concept and a proof of concept for Zero-Energy Devices (ZEDs)—IoT devices capable of harvesting ambient energy, enabling autonomous, maintenance-free operation with a reduced environmental footprint. This work addresses critical challenges in assessing the sustainability of 6G use cases and in reducing energy consumption in IoT devices. For this project, Ubiwhere will contribute with its expertise in Life Cycle Assessment, Network orchestration, E2E architectures, and sustainability.
The IMAGINE-B5G project was recognised for a Key Achievement focused on the real-world validation of (B)5G capabilities for port operations across network slicing, AI/ML-enabled operations, management and orchestration, and edge computing. The project delivered the first real-world demonstration in a fully operational port environment, supporting multiple critical applications simultaneously. By integrating technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, drones, remote vehicles and network slicing, IMAGINE-B5G enabled safer, more efficient and more sustainable port operations. Practical impact includes improved safety, reduced downtime and emissions, and guaranteed continuous connectivity for mobile assets in complex environments, enabled by integrating private and public 5G networks. The results establish a replicable model for other critical infrastructure sectors, thereby accelerating the adoption of private 5G networks and creating new business opportunities in logistics, transport, and smart ports. For this project, Ubiwhere’s contribution is its edge computing platform, which efficiently collects and processes data to deliver smooth, real-time reporting, critical updates, and actionable intelligence.
The recognition of these two projects in the SNS Key Achievements Repository Tool reinforces Ubiwhere’s contribution to the development of next-generation networks that are more sustainable, resilient and focused on real-world impact. The presence of Hexa-X-II and IMAGINE-B5G among the SNS JU’s key results underscores Ubiwhere’s active role in European collaborative ecosystems that connect research, innovation, and deployment, thereby contributing to Europe’s competitiveness and technological leadership.
