Connected Smart Cities and FIWARE Accelerators Workshop

Ubiwhere

We will participate at the Connected Smart Cities and FIWARE Accelerators Workshop, which will be held at iMinds-SMIT, in Brussels, on the 27th of March.

FIWARE is an open initiative aiming to create a sustainable ecosystem to grasp the opportunities that will emerge with the new wave of digitalisation caused by the integration of recent Internet technologies.

The initiative is based on five pillars, such as:

  • FIWARE platform which provides a rather simple yet powerful set of APIs that ease the development of Smart Applications in multiple vertical sectors;
  • FIWARE Lab which is a non-commercial sandbox environment where innovation and experimentation based on FIWARE technologies take place;
  • FIWARE Ops which is a collection of tools that eases the deployment, setup and operation of FIWARE instances by Platform Providers;
  • FIWARE Acceleration Programme which aims at promoting the take up of FIWARE technologies among solution integrators and application developers, with special focus on SMEs and start-ups;
  • FIWARE Mundus programme which is designed to bring coverage to this effort engaging local ICT players and domain stakeholders, and eventually liaising with local governments in different parts of the world, including Latin American, Africa and Asia.

Regarding the FIWARE Acceleration Programme, the EU launched an ambitious campaign in September 2014 mobilising 80M€ to support SMEs and entrepreneurs who will develop innovative applications based on FIWARE.

The workshop will be a place for discussion, where everyone can share best practices, and identify best opportunities for the cities and its future, starting at 9h00 am until 16h00 pm.

The main objective of the workshop is to be able to respond the question “What role can FIWARE accelerators play in boosting Smart City ecosystems and in connecting FIWARE using SMEs and start-ups with cities?” The purpose is to find the best answers regarding these three action points:
•    Share best practices, experiences and plans;
•    Identify opportunities and challenges;
•    Define actions.

Rui A. Costa, Ubiwhere’s CEO, will make a presentation on Panel II – “City, Accelerator and SME pitches”, from 11h00 to 13h00, under the theme “Porto as FIWARE-enabled City” where he will answer questions such as “How can FIWARE help accelerating cities becoming smarter, e.g. by stimulating the build-up of local ecosystems of SME/start-ups developing smart city services and applications?” and “What help is needed?
