Blue Connectivity: The technological potential in the Blue Economy was debated at Ubiwhere
The event ’’Blue Connectivity - Fostering Digital Technologies for the Blue Economy’’ took place at Ubiwhere headquarters, in Aveiro, on the 4th of April. This initiative disseminated the research and technology projects in the Blue Economy’s scope and a broad discussion on the potential for technological innovation and collaboration in this sector.
This initiative organised by Ubiwhere was attended by the Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs, José Maria Costa, the Norwegian Ambassador in Portugal, Tove Bruvik Westberg, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Aveiro, Eduardo Feio and the Director-General of Maritime Policy, Marisa Lameiras da Silva. During this event, several projects to promote the sector’s knowledge, innovation and connectivity, financed by EEA Grants, were presented, with moderation by Cluster TICE.PT.
One of the highlighted projects was WOSUP, promoted by Ubiwhere, which is based on removing the plastic and its derivatives in the oceans through the location and dimension of waste accumulations based on software.
It was also dynamised a Round Table by Digital Nervous System Testbed, by Ubiwhere, in which participated several entities with work developed in the Blue Economy area: Ecomare (University of Aveiro), BGI - Building Global Innovators and Riasearch.
Aiming to disseminate research and technology projects in the area of Blue Economy, the Secretary of State for the Sea, José Maria Costa, noted a "great bet in collaborative innovation", stressing that there are "more and more companies of excellence in the work related to the sustainable blue economy".
