European Project approved for Ubiwhere - SELFNET

Ubiwhere

On March 19th, 2015, DG CONNECT has announced a list of 18 projects funded under the 5G PPP network infrastructures.

Posted on December 11th, 2013, the first phase of the public-private partnership for the 5G network infrastructure was designed both to influence the standardisation work for mobile broadband, but also to work on the technology-specific infrastructure. With a first allocation of 125 million euros, this call has ended on November 25th, 2014 with 80 proposals received, but later only 18 were approved.

One of the 18 projects approved was the SELFNET – Framework for Self-organized Network Management in Virtualized and Software Defined Networks Project. Our commitment and hard work led us to accomplish this European Project under Horizon 2020 along with 11 other partners from Europe and our participation in this project is related with the work developed in uMeter QoS and Smart Cities.

The project:

SELFNET will design and implement an autonomic network management framework to achieve self-organising capabilities in managing network infrastructures by automatically detecting and mitigating a range of common network problems that are currently still being manually addressed by network operators, thereby significantly reducing operational costs and improving user experience.

It explores a smart integration of state-of-the-art technologies in Software-Defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualisation (NFV), Self-Organising Networks (SON), Cloud computing, Artificial intelligence, Quality of Experience (QoE) and Next-generation networking to provide a novel intelligent network management framework that is capable of assisting network operators in key management tasks.

SELFNET is designed within this economic and business context to substantially reduce operational costs of network operators by automating a significant number of current labour-intensive network management tasks.

Our partner ÅRØ Consulting helped us submitting the proposal. Both entities have worked together for the accomplishment of the project and the result proved to be extremely positive.
